At Park Bench Chiropractic we see a wide variety of patients with a lot of different physical conditions and injuries. Sports injuries make up a decent chunk of what we work with on a daily basis. Whether you are a avid athlete who competes in team sports and trains regularly or just a weekend warrior, you will undoubtedly experience setbacks which keep you sidelined.
Matt and Rob are both experienced with assessing and treating a variety of spinal and non-spinal problems, including ankle and wrist mobility, shoulder impingement and restriction, hip imbalances, and a host of muscular disorders. Persistent trigger points, terribly tight muscles, clicking, grinding, tweaks and twinges are all things we see on a daily basis. Some we can fix, some we can improve, some we will occasionally be completely confused about. No matter the issue, though, we will competently assess you and get you started on the path to recovery even if that means referring you to another provider for more appropriate care.
If you’re interested in coming in for a new patient exam, just give us a call at 301-378-0334. We are open from 8am to 6pm daily. We have limited Saturday hours, as well.
So, I realize this is a weird way to start a conversation. But follow along…
When you were a teenager and you were going to your friend’s home for dinner you would always be on your best behavior. At least I would (this is Rob writing this, for what it’s worth). I would bring my plate to the sink, I would use my manners, I would say “please” and “thank you” and probably even used “ma’am” or “sir”.
I know that dads also serve dinners, and cook. Just follow along for a moment.
Why did I act so polite and friendly? Because I wanted my friend’s family to like me and invite me over for more dinners, for sleepovers, and all of that fun stuff. I wanted them to like me! So I made sure to put my best foot forward.
Matt and I, upon opening the office in 2010, were having a conversation over beers at Brewer’s Alley. We had already decided to be “basic”, and that we wouldn’t be trying to amaze any patients with nonsense devices and services that seem fancy and hi-tech but which don’t actually do anything much to help patients. We were, of course, going to try to be great chiropractors and honest businessmen, but we decided to simply embody another basic principle that we thought would go a long way towards establishing ourselves as the type of chiropractors, and the type of people, that you would want to be do business with.
To put it quite simply, we planned on treating all of our patients like not just friends, but we are going to treat them like our best friend’s mom. So when you come to see us you will actually be treated like someone we want to impress. We don’t do this because it’s a way to make money, we do this because it’s a very simple and easy way to do things. Instead of treating people like co-pays or like potential payments from insurance companies, or trying to convince people to sign up for long-term treatment plans…instead of all that we just give everyone a competent assessment, a realistic explanation of their issue, a conservative and non-nonsense treatment plan, and then we do our best to treat everyone just like we would want to be treated. We find that, over anything else, being a good human goes pretty far. And when you treat people well, then you gain their trust and respect, and that is a better way to build a business than offering deep discounts, silly sales, or trying to tell people that if they don’t follow our recommendations that they will never get better.
It’s our hope that we are building relationships and making friends, not just being chiropractors.
Dr. Rob lives in Walkersville, off of Biggs Ford Road. Dr.Matt lives in Ballenger Creek, near Ballenger Creek Park. We both live in Frederick and raise our families here.
Dr. Rob likes reading comic books, doing yard work, playing with his kids, going hiking, and does some basic weight-lifting in his rudimentary basement gym. He has a 9-year old who has constantly changing interests, but for now they include everything football, yu-gi-oh, and reading. His daughter is 5, and she likes painting, she loves her cat “Rocky”, and she has a number of amazing dance-fighting maneuvers she can demonstrate on request. He likes his groceries from Wegman’s, but Giant definitely has better sales. He gets his alcoholic beverages (in moderation, of course) from Riverside Liquors. You can find him at the comic shop on Wednesdays. For pizza the current favorite place is Pasquale’s because the pizza is pretty good, the garlic knots are on point, and the service is fast and devoid of niceties, which is what Rob prefers. Rob’s wife, Nicole, works as a Project Manager at a local lighting company.
Dr. Matt practices Brazilian ju-jitsu at Clinch Academy. You can find him exercising at the YMCA on North Market St. Otherwise you may find him running the streets of Ballenger Creek or playing with his kids in the park nearby. Matt’s wife works in banking.
We were both working at Macy’s and at other chiropractic offices in Baltimore and D.C., saving up the money needed to open our own office.
If you’re a current patient, you’ve experienced the comfort of our real leather upholstery.
We got the office open on a shoestring budget. Matt’s mom and brother came out to help with the flooring and upholstering the chairs. We got our office chairs from Craigslist. We painted them and put new leather on them. We got the flooring from Lowe’s, on clearance. We ripped up the old carpet that came with the building. We painted the walls. We found a great local contractor to put some new walls up.
Rob’s son, Logan, was instrumental in the process.
We did most of the work in our free time, usually with our family there helping out.
Matt’s mom has a lot of do-it-yourself skills.
A lot of businesses open up with a bunch of money already in the bank. Good for them. We opened up with just barely enough to get the place rented, built out, inspected, and furnished. We didn’t take home any pay for the first half year or so. It was difficult, but that’s what life is like sometimes.
Walls up, mess everywhere.
We are not the fanciest office. That’s OK.The fancy stuff isn’t what gets people better, anyway. We don’t have any really expensive stuff. But we are down-to-Earth, we treat you right, and we operate our business with integrity. We will treat you like family if you are one of our patients. So if you need a chiropractor and you’re in Frederick, give us a call.
You’re encouraged to click around the site and see what else you can learn about us. Even better, ask one of our current patients what they think of us, or check out some reviews on the Internet. Even better, just stop by and say “hi” and see for yourself.
We have 1,000’s of active local patients. We’ve never provided any New Patient Specials. We never send anyone any marketing material in the mail. We don’t offer GroupOn discounts. We maintain a healthy and thriving chiropractic practice by sticking to the Golden Rule.
We treat all our patients just like we would want to be treated. We treat them like family. It’s that simple rule which allows us to stay busy enough that we hardly ever do any type of advertising. Rather than having to constantly find more and more new clients we instead recognize the value in keeping the clients we already have.
We want every patient who comes in to see us to leave having experienced friendly, competent, and upstanding chiropractic care. We offer simple short-term care plans. We welcome people who just want to come in every once in a while. We take most major insurance plans. We have hours ranging from 8am to 6pm every weekday. We have Saturday hours. We offer real consultations – for free – in case someone isn’t sure if they want to try chiropractic. Then if they decide it’s not what they want we actually smile and wish them luck! We may not be perfect for everyone, but we make it a point to try our hardest to treat everyone like family.
